KKR lost their first two matches of an IPL season for the first time after 14 long years.
The three-time champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), have suffered back-to-back defeats as a stunning effort from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bowling attack bundled out the hosts with four overs remaining in the KKR vs SRH IPL 2026 match. Blessing Muzarabani was the pick of their bowlers, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi impressed again with successive half-centuries.
But ultimately, an all-round show from Nitish Kumar Reddy, backed by Jaydev Unadkat’s three-wicket haul, sealed the first victory for the Hyderabad outfit. Let’s take a look at 3 key takeaways from the KKR vs SRH game.
An impressive show from Blessing Muzarabani in the KKR vs SRH fixture will surely bring in a ray of hope to an injury-depleted bowling lineup of KKR. After a wicketless spell against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on his IPL debut, the Zimbabwean bowler stepped up for the Men in Purple in their first home match of the IPL 2026. Muzarabani was off to an expensive start, giving away 16 runs in the second over, facing the swashbuckling Travishek pair.
But he scripted a major comeback with two big scalps of the SRH captain Ishan Kishan and Abhishek during the ninth over, while conceding only eight runs. The visitors had already reached 110/1 till then, but this over shifted the momentum back towards the Knights. Muzarabani was the most economical KKR pacer of the night, as he snared two more in the final over to finish with the figure of 4/41.
The team was already struggling with their relatively weaker bowling lineup. But the underwhelming batting display in the KKR vs SRH fixture has raised some key questions for the management that need to be addressed ahead of their forthcoming IPL 2026 matches. KKR’s batting order seemed to be heavily reliant on captain Ajinkya Rahane, Finn Allen, Rughuvanshi, and Rinku Singh.
Allen had provided a fierce start to the hosts’ chase, scoring 24 runs off the first over while chasing a target of 227. But following his early dismissal, the marquee acquisition Cameron Green once again failed to prove his worth, while skipper Rahane and vice-captain Rinku also could not replicate their last match heroics.
The 21-year-old Raghuvanshi put up a commendable fight, scoring a 29-ball 52. But his efforts went in vain, as Ramandeep Singh and veteran all-rounder Sunil Narine fell for cheap scores of just 10 (9) and 12 (4), respectively. Alongside their bowling weaknesses, Green’s lean patch and the sub-par show from the batting unit would be a major headache for the team.

The explosive opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head is back among the runs, but the concerns around their middle order still remain a major talking point. Star South African big-hitter Heinrich Klaasen has added valuable contributions in both of SRH’s outings so far, but the player would definitely want to better his strike rate of 145.61.
Apart from him, Nitish Kumar Reddy also played a crucial 39-run knock in the KKR vs SRH match after a dismal start to his season with the willow but could not convert it to a big score. The last match’s debutant Salil Arora missed out on another opportunity to rise to the occasion. Another youngster, Aniket Verma, who had put up a blazing 18-ball 43 in the previous match, also returned for just one run.
