The 27-year old snared 1 for 19 against Delhi Capitals.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacers Mohammed Shami and Mohsin Khan were on song in their opening fixture of the IPL 2026 against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday. They shared 2 for 47 in eight overs, albeit the team ended up losing by six wickets.
While this was the first time the duo has teamed up in the IPL, they share a deeper bond that has been forged by training together over the last few years. Shami, being the veteran Indian pacer, took Mohsin under his wing, and has helped the left-armer make a strong comeback in the IPL 2026.
Separated by about eight years, Shami and Mohsin both come from Uttar Pradesh. The other connection is Badruddin Siddiqui, who has trained the duo since their early teens. The coach was overjoyed after watching his two disciples operate in tandem in the IPL.
Speaking to Times of India, Badruddin discussed Mohsin’s injury-ridden career in depth and how Shami has helped the younger pacer. Mohsin removed Nitish Rana and bowled a maiden over against the Capitals. He also made life difficult for Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs. For Badruddin, though, the highlight of the night was when Mohsin made a full-stretch dive on the boundary line.
“Ab darr khatam ho chuka hai (He is not afraid anymore). If a fast bowler whose career has been marred by injuries is diving in the field, it means just one thing. He is supremely fit,” said Badruddin.
Mohsin announced himself to the world in style, picking up 14 wickets in the 2022 season at an exceptional economy of 5.96. He was set for an India call-up but a shoulder injury ruined his moment. Since then, he has battled a shoulder injury, a groin injury, and a knee injury after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Badruddin revealed how Mohsin Khan had a rapid growth as a player after he started training with Shami.
“Shami has helped him a lot, right from the start. It was during the lockdown that he started living and training with Shami at his farmhouse. The results were there for everyone to see in IPL 2022,” he added.
Perhaps the most pivotal moment in their companionship came after last year’s IPL. Badruddin spoke about how one moment changed Mohsin’s perspective about fitness.
“We were having tea at Shami’s farmhouse, and Mohsin was just coming out of the gym. I remember Shami’s words, ‘Mohsin miyaan, gym se body ban jayegi, bowling nahi’ (Gym can shape your body, not your bowling),” said Badruddin.
He revealed that Mohsin has changed his lifestyle in the past 12 months, and has worked closely with Shami on improving fitness and bowling. Coincidentally, Shami has also been battling injuries in the last couple of years. The work the duo put in could be seen in LSG’s IPL 2026 opener as both looked in fine rhythm.
