New Gujarat Titans Recruit Dismisses Babar Azam in BBL 2025–26 [WATCH]

After being bought for INR 75 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction, Gujarat Titans recruit Luke Wood, representing Adelaide Strikers, dismissed Babar Azam of Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League 2025-26.

In the first innings, during the second over, Luke Wood bowled to Babar Azam, who was caught by Matthew Short at mid-wicket. Babar tried to hit the ball but couldn’t keep it down, and it went straight to Short. He was out for 9 runs off 10 balls, with one four.

This was another disappointing innings for Babar, who was also dismissed for 2 in the first match. After getting Babar out, Luke Wood went on to dismiss Jack Edwards and Ben Dwarshuis, finishing with figures of 3 wickets for 26 runs in his four overs. Wood was the pick of the bowlers, while Jamie Overton took two wickets. Henry Thornton claimed one, Lloyd Pope took two, and Matthew Short picked up one wicket. For Sydney, Josh Philippe scored 46, while Jack Edwards added 32.

In reply, the Adelaide Strikers chased down the target with three wickets in hand and four balls to spare. Liam Scott scored 51, and Jamie Overton contributed 30. For , Jack Edwards took two wickets, while the other bowlers picked up one wicket each.

Luke Wood Brings Valuable Overseas Pace Option to Gujarat Titans

The Gujarat Titans recruit has been in decent form in 2025. Luke Wood played in the T20 Blast 2025 and took 22 wickets in 11 matches for Lancashire. In the PSL, playing for Peshawar Zalmi, he picked up 11 wickets in eight matches. In T20Is for England, he has taken nine wickets in nine matches. Last year, he represented Melbourne Stars in the BBL and took 20 wickets in 14 matches.

The 30 year old will now play for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026 after being bought for INR 75 lakh at the auction. There is a good chance Luke Wood could get opportunities in some matches, as he is expected to be used as a backup for Kagiso Rabada. Apart from Rabada, Gujarat Titans only have Jason Holder as the other overseas pacer, which increases Wood’s chances of playing.

Gujarat Titans had INR 12.90 crore in their purse and needed to fill five slots. They signed Ashok Sharma for INR 90 lakhs, Jason Holder for INR 7 crore, Luke Wood for INR 75 lakhs, Tom Banton for INR 2 crore, and Prithviraj Yarra for INR 30 lakhs.
