Below is a detailed look at the five highest run chases in WPL history, with Gujarat Giants featuring prominently on the list.

202/4 – Gujarat Giants vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2025)

The highest among all highest run chases in WPL came in the opening match of the 2025 season, when Royal Challengers Bengaluru pulled off the league’s first-ever 200-plus chase against Gujarat Giants. After a steady start from Beth Mooney (56), skipper Ashleigh Gardner exploded with an unbeaten 79 off just 37 balls. Cameos from Deandra Dottin, Simran Shaikh, and Harleen Deol lifted GG to 201/5.

RCB’s chase began poorly as Gardner struck twice early, removing Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt-Hodge. What followed was a stunning recovery led by Ellyse Perry, who added 86 with Raghvi Bisht. The finishing blows came from Richa Ghosh (64* off 27) and Kanika Ahuja, sealing the highest run chase in WPL history.

192/5 – Gujarat Giants vs Mumbai Indians (2026)

The sixth match of the latest WPL season also entered the chart for the highest run chases in WPL. Coming on the back of two consecutive wins, the Gujarat Giants (GG) were also off to a flier against the defending champions, MI. They had reached 96/2 in only nine overs, but the dismissals of Kanika Ahuja and skipper Ashleigh Gardner in quick intervals slowed down their innings. Though a late blitz from Bharti Fulmali (36*) propelled them to 192/5, it was not enough to continue the side’s winning run in the WPL 2026.

While defending the score, the Gujarat outfits started well by removing both the MI openers early. But captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s (71*) two crucial partnerships with Amanjot Kaur (40) and Nicola Carey (38*), backed by multiple missed chances by GG, helped them snatch two vital points for the team. Mumbai Indians clinched the fixture with four balls remaining and eclipsed the Giants to take the second spot of the WPL 2026 points table.

191/3 – Gujarat Giants vs Mumbai Indians (2024)

Another entry in the highest run chases in WPL list came during Match 16 of WPL 2024, where Mumbai Indians Women chased down 191 against Gujarat. After a strong partnership between Mooney (66) and Dayalan Hemlatha (74), the team kept losing wickets at regular intervals. No other batter, except for Fulmali, managed to keep the momentum going. Her unbeaten 21 runs off 13 balls propelled the Giants to 190/7.

While chasing, Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews provided a good start to MI, putting up 50 for no loss in the power play. But the innings slowed down in the middle overs as the inaugural champions found themselves at 100/3 at the end of the 14th over. However, captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s rescue act of 95 not out off 48 deliveries and a timely 12-run contribution from Amelia Kerr helped them clinch one of the thrilling highest run chases in WPL with only one ball remaining.

189/2 – Gujarat Giants vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2023)

One of the earliest highest run chases in WPL history came in 2023, highlighting the long-standing rivalry between Gujarat and Bengaluru. These two sides have a history of engaging in high-scoring matches since the first edition of the tournament. The third-placed fixture in the list of the highest run chases in WPL history dates back to only the second encounter between the two teams.

Winning the toss, a collective effort from all the batters helped the Giants post 188/4 on the scoreboard. But a scintillating 36-ball 99 from the ex-New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine, followed by Perry and Heather Knight’s finishing touches, saw RCB comfortably chase the total under 16 overs.

175/7 – Gujarat Giants vs UP Warriorz (2023)

The inaugural season also featured one of the highest run chases in WPL, when UP Warriorz pulled off a stunning comeback. After a thrashing defeat to start the campaign, the Giants registered a decent comeback in their second match. Harleen top-scored with a 32-ball 46, as contributions from Gardner, Hemlatha, and Sabbhineni Meghana guided them to 169/6.

But despite three single-digit returns and two ducks, the fireworks from Grace Harris (59*) and Sophie Ecclestone (22*) had pulled the game back. Their unbeaten 70-run partnership off 26 balls ensured a smashing start to the tournament for the Warriorz. Kiran Navgire’s 53 runs also played a pivotal role in the chase.

175/7 – Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians (2024)

Rounding out the list of the highest run chases in WPL is the opening match of the 2024 season, where MI edged past Delhi Capitals Women off the final ball. Debutant Sajeevan Sajana faced the final delivery and hit a six to win the game for MI. Previously, Alice Capsey’s 75 and Jemimah Rodrigues’ 42 had guided the Capitals to 171/5.

Harmanpreet & Co. were well in contention to snatch the match, needing only 30 runs in the final three overs. But after starring with the bat, English all-rounder Capsey had almost tilted the result in DC’s favour with her last-over magic, dismissing Puja Vastrakar and captain Kaur (55). Eventually, Sajana finished off the match in style, recording the fixture at fifth in the highest run chases in WPL history.
