Mohammad Rizwan Retired Out In BBL 2025-26 After Slow Knock, Poor Run Continues For Melbourne Renegades Player [WATCH]

The 33rd match of the Big Bash League had to see Mohammad Rizwan retired out.

‘Mohammad Rizwan retired out’ flashing on the screen is not a sight cricket fans are used to seeing. However, the instance occurred in the 33rd match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26, when the Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter was retired out by the Melbourne Renegades.

Rizwan walked out to bat at No.4, with the team score on 83/2 in the 10th over of the first innings. However, he could only score a mere 26 runs off the 23 deliveries that he faced by the 18th over of the match, and was eventually retired out by Will Sutherland.

Playing in his first BBL season has not been a very fulfilling experience for Rizwan as yet, as he has not been amongst the runs as much as himself and the Renegades would have liked. However, Hassan Khan’s 46 got them to 170/8, giving their bowlers something to bowl at.

Why Was Mohammad Rizwan Retired Out?

For a batter who walked in at No.4 in the first innings, Mohammad Rizwan’s strike rate was a tad bit too low. Striking at 113.04 was never going to be ideal in this scenario, as the Melbourne Renegades needed to push the scoring rate to the upper circuit.

To give some context here, Mohammad Rizwan had the lowest strike-rate amongst all batters in the top-six for the Renegades in their fixture against the Sydney Thunder. His performances in the BBL till now have not showcased any promise and the Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter has found it difficult to accelerate.

The 33-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Pakistan has featured in eight matches for the Melbourne Renegades so far in the Australian franchise league, scoring only 167 runs at an average of around 20. Furthermore, his strike-rate has been the real cause of concern.

In his most recent four matches, his scores have been 26(23), 21(20), 21(25) and 41(38). Though he got off to a start in each of the four fixtures, Rizwan has simply not been able to convert those starts into big totals. The acceleration just hasn’t come out from his bat, which would be a point of concern for the Renegades going ahead.
