He has suffered a shoulder injury.
Joburg Super Kings (JSK) skipper Donovan Ferreira has picked up a shoulder injury during their latest clash against the Pretoria Capitals (PC). Unfortunately, the player has been sidelined from the remaining fixtures of the SA20 2026. The all-rounder’s injury just days before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 would be concerning for the last edition’s runners-up.
The 20-over championship will kickstart on February 7 in India, with South Africa starting their campaign against Afghanistan on February 11. The Proteas would miss one of their key players of the squad if Ferreira could not recover on time for the mega ICC event.
Previously, the side came agonisingly close to getting their hands on the maiden T20 silverware. But a narrow seven-run loss in the final against India shattered their dream of claiming the title. However, the team would look to go one step further this time around to add another ICC trophy in their cabinet.
But since the T20 World Cup 2024, they have managed to win only one series in the format. With seven defeats and two draws in the last nine series, their solitary victory dates back to December 2024, when South Africa beat Pakistan by 2-0 at home.

The all-rounder showcased consistency with the ball in the fourth season of South Africa’s premier T20 tournament. He snared five scalps in as many innings at an impressive economy of 7.86. But the JSK captain suffered an underwhelming run with the willow in nine matches of the league so far. Ferreira maintained a fierce strike rate of 171.66 but managed only 103 runs in eight innings.
The Super Kings also endured a rough form in the tournament, winning only three out of their nine league-stage fixtures. But the side might still make it to the playoffs by winning their last fixture against the Paarl Royals. A big-margin victory could help them to secure the fourth spot by eliminating the 2024 runners-up, Durban’s Super Giants (DSG).
