Delhi Capitals Announce Former England Star As Assistant Coach for IPL 2026

Delhi Capitals (DC) have bolstered their coaching unit ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) as they aim to break the jinx and win their maiden title. The Delhi franchise has onboarded former England batting star Ian Bell in the capacity of assistant coach. The 43-year-old will take over the office from his predecessor, Matthew Mott.

The news of the development was confirmed by the franchise via their social media handles.

Ian Bell will now join the Hemang Badani-led coaching staff, which also includes former England star Kevin Pietersen as team mentor, veteran Indian pacer Munaf Patel as bowling coach and Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao.

Ian Bell boasts of an extensive coaching resume, spanning across international and franchise teams apart from doing development work with U19 sides too. He has worked as a consultant coach for New Zealand during their 2023 ODI World Cup preparation and as the batting coach for Sri Lanka’s 2024 Test tour of England.

In franchise leagues, Ian Bell has acted as assistant coach for Melbourne Renegades (BBL) and Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL). In The Hundred, he worked with Birmingham Phoenix while also donning the role of a batting coach for the Dubai Capitals in ILT20 and leading them to the title. In Abu Dhabi T10, the vetran Enland star has plied his trade with the Chennai Braves.

Prior to that, Bell has coached the England Under-19s and England Lions, working with young talent.

Talking about his playing career, Ian Bell is a veteran of 118 Tests, 161 ODIs and eight T20Is while being the most prolific in longest-format, scoring 7727 runs including 22 tons and 46 fifties.
