Adam Zampa revealed why he did not register for the IPL 2026 auction and later chose to play in the PSL.

The Australian spinner was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025. He was picked for INR 2.40 crore and played only two matches, taking two wickets. After that, he was ruled out due to a recurring shoulder injury. Before the IPL 2026 mini auction, he was released by the franchise, and then he did not register his name for the auction.

Speaking on the ARY podcast, Adam Zampa said that players with his kind of skills do not get the same money as others. He also felt that the time commitment required for the IPL was too much.

“To be brutally honest, for someone with my skill set, the money just isn’t there compared to what’s available for other skill sets,” Zampa said. “Considering the amount of time the IPL requires, it didn’t seem like a reasonable choice for me to keep playing,” Adam Zampa said.

Adam Zampa was planning to take a break for some time, but suddenly a new opportunity came his way. Just weeks before the start of the Pakistan Super League tournament, Karachi Kings signed the Australian leg spinner for PKR 4.5 crore in the auction.

“I was planning to take a break, but then the PSL came onto the radar about a month ago,” he added. “It all happened pretty quickly, but I’m enjoying it,” he added.

The 34 year old has taken three wickets in two matches so far and has bowled at an economy rate of 4.62, which is quite impressive.

Overall, he has played 22 matches in the league, taking 31 wickets at an economy rate of 8.37.

In the 2024 season, Adam Zampa was retained by Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.50 crore. However, the leg spinner pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons.
