KKR pacer will need to lead the attack.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Kartik Tyagi has finally overcome injury issues and made a comeback in IPL 2026. After years of injury problems, which derailed his progress and forced him to change several things, the pacer will now hope to remain as fit as possible without frequent setbacks in his career.
A major focus will also be on developing his T20 skills, because injuries not only took his precious time away but also limited his development, as he couldn’t work on his skills at any stage. His natural attributes have always been high: pace, bounce, and the ability to hit hard lengths and bowl with a release point due to his height.

Fortunately for Kartik Tyagi, he has Dwayne Bravo, who is KKR’s mentor, on his side for the season, and he understands T20 bowling more than many other bowlers in the world. In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Tyagi explained he has learned much from Bravo in a few interactions and will look to understand how to come back after getting hit for a few runs.
“I have only had the opportunity to speak with him two or three times so far, but even in that short span, I have learned a great deal from him. He is a legend of the T20 format and knows exactly how to adapt to the various match situations that arise during fast-paced T20 games. For instance, there are times when a lot of runs are conceded during the powerplay; in such scenarios, he knows exactly what mindset to adopt when stepping up to bowl in the death overs.”
KKR have one of the weakest pace departments in the competition, since they are without all their key pacers in IPL 2026. Harshit Rana was ruled out due to a knee injury, Mustafizur Rahman was not allowed to feature due to political tensions, and Matheesha Pathirana has yet to regain full fitness, with no return date.

Additionally, Cameron Green won’t bowl in the initial phase, limiting his presence to a batter only. So, the options left in the squad are Vaibhav Arora, Blessing Muzarabani, Saurabh Dubey, Umran Malik, and Navdeep Saini.
All these pacers are highly vulnerable or inexperienced at this level, with none of them being established names in the league. So, KKR can’t expect them to do the job most of the time, as was visible during the opening game against Mumbai Indians (MI).
That’s where Kartik Tyagi and his superior skills become all the more crucial for the Knight Riders, and he showed encouraging skills against MI, even if he leaked a few runs. He will need to step up consistently and do the heavy lifting by bowling all the tough overs throughout the season if KKR are to do well in the tournament.
