David Miller Injury Update: Will South Africa Batter Be Fit for T20 World Cup 2026?

David Miller suffered a suspected groin injury during the SA20 2025-26 clash, raising questions about his fitness for the T20 World Cup 2026, starting January 7 in India and Sri Lanka. The injury occurred while he was fielding in the match for Paarl Royals against Joburg Super Kings on Monday, January 19. He left the field in the 16th over and did not come to bat during the chase.

In the match, Paarl Royals fell short while chasing 167, getting bowled out for 122, as Miller could not come out to bat.

It is now understood Miller suffered an adductor muscle injury, according to a Cricket South Africa (CSA) statement. With Miller still uncertain, Rubin Hermann was added to the squad for the T20I series against the West Indies as a precaution, which marked the final preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026

However, on Saturday, the CSA officially announced that the veteran batter David Miller has been medically cleared for the T20 World Cup 2026.

“David Miller successfully underwent a fitness test this week following an adductor muscle strain sustained while playing for Paarl Royals during the SA20. He will join the squad on Sunday when they depart for Mumbai from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg,” said CSA in their statement.

The southpaw has enjoyed a sublime form in SA20 2025-26, scoring 196 runs in eight innings at an average of 39.20 with a strike rate of 148.48.
