Marco Jansen has been rested to manage his workload ahead of the knockout phase of the T20 World Cup 2026. He was also rested for UAE game earlier, when South Africa’s Super 8 qualification was sealed.

Kwena Maphaka has replaced him in the XI, as was the case last time around. Jansen should return to the XI for the semifinal, where they will face either England or New Zealand.

Jansen has been among the most successful bowlers in the competition, with 11 wickets at an average of 16.73 and a strike rate of 10.82 in five innings, including two four-wicket hauls. He has been South Africa’s joint-leading wicket-taker despite playing a match less.

The decks in Ahmedabad have suited his craft, since the left-arm pacer has managed to extract bounce and movement most of the time. But the team doesn’t want to risk him ahead of the crunch matches, which answers the question ‘Why is Marco Jansen not in South Africa playing XI today for ZIM vs SA T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 game?’.

Kwena Maphaka gets his second game

Kwena Maphaka will play his second T20 World Cup 2026 game against Zimbabwe. He was wicketless in the UAE fixture, where he conceded 30 runs across four overs.

Coincidentally, he has played both games in Delhi, which are also South Africa’s only matches outside Ahmedabad so far. The deck will be comparatively flat, so Maphaka will have his task cut out.

However, he bowled reasonably well last time around, even if he went wicketless. This game time will help him gain exposure to these conditions and develop more as a pacer, with a possibility of taking a slot in the playing XI should an injury or unavailability occur.
